Cube Escape #7 - Create a Success Plan

Episode seven is up! This episode deals with creating a success plan, tells you why you should create one, and then gives you a real-world example (mine). Remember that it’s not only important to have a goal, but also to have a plan of action. Goals don’t mean much if you don’t know how you’re going to achieve them.

Cube Escape Podcast Format Change - Short and Focused

The Cube Escape Podcast is going to have a little format change. Instead of producing sporadic episodes that are 20 - 30 minutes long, I’m going to start making shorter episodes.

I’m going to shoot for episodes that are 5 - 10 minutes long, each containing one actionable topic. I want to just give you one tip — something you can do right away, or tuck away for another time. I’m also going to create these episodes more often. Right now, I have no schedule, and the episodes come out around two weeks apart.

I think this change will help, you, the listener, take more productive steps to creating success in your own life. But don’t worry… if you like long, detail-rich content, I’ve got something up my sleeve for you, too.

I’ll be producing my first short and focused episode soon. I’ve had a cold the past week, so recording my voice would have been silly. I’m all better now, so all I have to do is decide on a topic, record, and post it for you.

Viddler - A Video Social Networking Site

I’ve come across a new video social networking site. It’s not exactly new, but it’s not known widely enough to be commonplace yet. At least, it’s not as popular as YouTube… I’m talking about Viddler.

I came across it while reading a health and wellness newsletter I subscribe to. I went and checked it out and immediately saw the benefit. I’ve joined and have started posting some videos (one business-oriented video and a couple of personal ones).

I’m going to take full advantage of the social networking aspects of the site to help get some exposure and brand-building going on. I encourage you to do it, too. Social networking is a great way to get exposure to your products and your brand. Video networking sites, such as YouTube and now Viddler, can help you, too.

Naturally, you’ve got to have some video. If you don’t have a video camera, try your web cam, the video feature of your digital camera, or just borrow something. Get yourself out there — start small and then build up to something that will work for you.

Start a Photography Business

Based on my own observation, it seems that may people don’t want to just jump into a business. They seem to want to slide in, gradually transitioning from one career to another. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. It’s what I did.

If you are interested in photography, and have thought about starting up your own photo business, I have some good news. You don’t have to wait around while you slowly build up enough capital to invest in thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

You can get started with your own photography business with the same digital camera you’ve got now. Follow the link below to learn how:

Next Podcast Episode Coming Soon

I know it’s been a while, but I have been busy! I’ve got some rough notes written for the next podcast episode, and I should have it recorded and up in a day or two.

This episode is going to be about business structure. We’ll look at a couple of different structures and dispel some myths. That way you can make a more informed decision…after talking with your accountant, that is.

Loopholes of the Rich

If you are just kicking around the idea of going into business for yourself, you need to read Loopholes of the Rich by Diane Kennedy. The subtitle is “How the Rich Legally Make More Money & Pay Less Tax.” Quite an appropriate title.

Diane Kennedy is a very successful CPA, and boy does she know her stuff. From start to finish, this book is all about making you and your company as tax-leveraged as possible. Did you know that — if you run your own corporation and work as an employee — you can pay yourself a childcare expense? This book is filled with a bunch of tidbits like that.

Worried about the issue of double taxation? If that is why you aren’t going to start your own company, you need to get this book. If you manage your business right, and take full advantage of what the IRS gives to you, double taxation will just become some horror story told around a campfire.

Another worry I’ve come across while talking with people is the issue of liability. With the proper business structure, liability can be reduced or eliminated. Diane covers all of that in this book. It’s a quick and easy read, but it is loaded with information. I’ve read it once, and I’m going to have to read it again so I can get new ideas for running my business the best way possible.

Make a lot of money, and pay less taxes…all legally. Sounds good to me. Here’s a link to the book on Amazon.com, so you can check it out for yourself (just buy it):
