News: Selling Site
I’m selling this site and the content will go away. I will probably find a new place for some of the articles, but everything else will go away for now. Thanks for reading and listening to the podcast! It’s been great…
Upcoming – Special Podcast Episodes and A New Course
I’ve been cooking up ideas the last couple of days. And these are ideas that will directly benefit you! As you know (or maybe not if you’re a first time reader), I’m all about helping you move from employee to entrepreneur. I want you to run your own company.
That’s what all this upcoming content is going to focus on. But it’s not going to focus on starting up just any kind of company. If your dream is to open up your own restaurant, or massage therapy clinic, or something like that, this stuff won’t apply to you directly. Of course, you should still check it out — you never know where you might hear an idea you can use in your own life.
This upcoming content is all about starting a business tailored for the Internet. So stay tuned! I’ve got episode 11 planned and will be recording it soon. Then episodes 12 and 13 will be all about Internet business. And you’ll also hear about this new “how-to” course I’ve just started working on. It will take me just a little bit to put together, but I’ll let you know when it’s ready.
And if you want in on the early notifications and discounts, sign up for the Cube Escape Newsletter (over on the right). Don’t wait around…take the steps you need to take to get control of your future and start your own successful company.
Keep your eyes peeled for that next podcast!
Cube Escape Podcast Format Change – Short and Focused
The Cube Escape Podcast is going to have a little format change. Instead of producing sporadic episodes that are 20 – 30 minutes long, I’m going to start making shorter episodes.
I’m going to shoot for episodes that are 5 – 10 minutes long, each containing one actionable topic. I want to just give you one tip — something you can do right away, or tuck away for another time. I’m also going to create these episodes more often. Right now, I have no schedule, and the episodes come out around two weeks apart.
I think this change will help, you, the listener, take more productive steps to creating success in your own life. But don’t worry… if you like long, detail-rich content, I’ve got something up my sleeve for you, too.
I’ll be producing my first short and focused episode soon. I’ve had a cold the past week, so recording my voice would have been silly. I’m all better now, so all I have to do is decide on a topic, record, and post it for you.
Next Podcast Episode Coming Soon
I know it’s been a while, but I have been busy! I’ve got some rough notes written for the next podcast episode, and I should have it recorded and up in a day or two.
This episode is going to be about business structure. We’ll look at a couple of different structures and dispel some myths. That way you can make a more informed decision…after talking with your accountant, that is.
I’ve Been on Vacation
I took a short, impromptu vacation, and I recommend all of you do that from time to time. It’s all too brief, but refreshing just the same. And, naturally, the vacation explains the recent lack of content… I’ll be back on it in the next day or two.
New Theme to Try Out
OK, now I’ve got a new theme up that seems like it might be a good one. I’m going to test it out for a while, tweak it, and then decide if I’m going to keep it or not. Once I decide that it’s the theme for me, then I’ll work on upgrading to the most recent version of WordPress.
At some time before or after that, I’ll have the newsletter subscription ready. I’m not sure which I will do first, but I’m sure I’ll do one of them.
Feel free to leave comments about the theme or the site in general.
Coming soon
Cube Escape has a couple of changes coming soon. First, I’ll be finding a new theme for the site. This theme has been pretty good to me, but I think I want something a little more flexible. Instead of spending the time to edit this theme or write my own, I’m just going to find another one that is freely available, or pay someone to come up with one for me. As a part of this new theme process, I’ll also be upgrading to the latest version of WordPress. The one installed now is pretty old…
The other change that will be here soon is more of an addition than a change. I’m going to start a business opportunity newsletter. I figure that it’s time that I stop droning on about what I’m doing and start to offer some more value to you readers. I’ve found, based on the search phrases used to find this site, that many people are looking for a way out. So I’m going to start a newsletter that will highlight some possible ways out of the cubicle farm.
How soon will these changes be coming? I’m not sure. I’ve got a few other high-priority projects I’m wrapping up right now, so I might have to wait until I’m done with those. Just keep checking back every hour of every day until you see the changes. Then subscribe to the newsletter.
Oh, and in case you’re interested in how I know what search terms readers use to find this site, it’s StatCounter. It’s a great, free tool for tracking your web traffic. If your web host doesn’t offer good software, check them out. Even if your web host does offer great tracking software, check them out anyway. It’s a good service and you might like it.
2008 – The Year I Retire at 31
I’m 31 and I’m going to retire this year. Bold claim, isn’t it? Well, it’s true. But let me back up just a moment so you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. In general, the American work force is completely lame. Now, I’m not talking about any individual workers or groups of workers or anything like that. I’m talking about how we work in this country. It’s not natural, and I’ve just had enough of it. I’ve been in the workforce long enough. This year, I’m going to leave it.
I’ll be working until I die, but this year I’m leaving the “work world” behind. My business will make enough money so that I will leave the workforce forever and do what I want to do. Sure, I’ll still have to work, but to me, one can work and be retired at the same time. To me, being retired simply means you’ve left the silly American way of work behind and moved on to something wiser and more natural.
Enough of that…to my ventures! I’ve got my company set up to run its fiscal year along with the calendar year. So, with the new year comes new things. Here are some things I’ve got in store for 2008 (I’ve already begun, by the way): Music, writing, and teaching.
Chaoscube Music: An independent music shop for purchasing DRM-Free and Royalty-Free digital music, sound effects, and ring tones. The main purpose of this site is to provide royalty-free music for independent game developers and small shops. Sure, I’ll sell to the big guys, too, but my focus will be the little guys trying to turn out great games that also happen to have soundtracks. And ring tones are just added in as a bonus. Everyone likes them and they are fast and cheap.
Cynical Tutor: Web programming video training. This site will sell training videos geared to the newbie web programmer. The new programmer will purchase the videos, download them, and learn various tricks of the trade, from simple database interfacing to building fully-functioning Content Management Systems. Plenty of freebies, too.
Education Finder: This one isn’t new, but I’ll be making some improvements to it. It’s a decent site, but I’ve got to make it better. The informational and revenue potential for that site is huge, and I’m not going to let it fall shy of it’s potential.
Caleb Rogers Copywriting Services: Copywriting, ghostwriting, blogging, ad writing, web copy, and just about anything else that can be written shall be written. Well, maybe not The Great American Novel, but stuff that will help others make money will be written. The site is still in development, but look for it to go live in two to three weeks.
There are also some other ideas I’m toying around with. I’ll bring those up as they move from “toying around” to “going to do.”
Good Info
On my Google personalized home page I noticed that today’s “how-to of the day” was entitled “How to Lose Your Fear of Being Fired.” I thought that sounded interesting, since I work in what I will call a hostile work environment. So, I read it, and then read another article linked from it, and found it useful as well.
I thought I would share. So, How To Lose Your Fear of Being Fired and How to Deal With a Bad Boss. I’m sure there are many that have been in one of these two situations… enjoy.
