I started off just like everyone else. I got an expensive education, putting me far into debt, and then I started looking for a nice, secure corporate job with great benefits. I was ready to work for 40 years, retire, and then die.

The American dream…

It didn’t take long to realize this wasn’t the life for me. I had a decent job, but I just wasn’t satisfied. I wanted more, and it started to affect me. I grew depressed as my body and soul were telling me to get out of there.

While still working full time, I went to MBA school. I thought that surely I would be able to find something I could be happy with if I got a graduate degree in business. Then I could walk into a management position that had comfortable working conditions and comfortable pay.

Soon I realized what a mistake I had made. Two things dawned on me. First, I don’t think I got what I paid for. I had a 4.0 cumulative GPA, and I did that with my eyes closed. I’m not saying that I’m super smart or anything. They just weren’t challenging me.

The second thing I realized was that I wasn’t actually learning what I thought was business administration. I was learning to be a good middle manager in a large company. What a waste of time. I was learning how to deal with a few management tasks while fulfilling the orders of those above me. That is not what I was looking for.

So I asked myself the hard question, “Why did I go to grad school?” The answer: To defer my undergrad student loans. Brilliant choice…

I wanted something more, so I left grad school just over halfway through the program. And I’ve had no regrets. I didn’t know what I wanted, but I wanted something. So I started my own company. I started before I was ready, and without a clear picture of where I wanted to end up. I just knew that I had to do something.

Now I’ve had some time to work out the kinks of my business. Now I have a profitable operation. I got out, and I am enjoying my freedom. And now that I’m out, I want to help others get out, too. I’ve made it my mission to help as many people as I can break out of the rat race and start their own successful business.
